Derawan Island, Indonesia

Derawan is an island located in Derawan Islands, District Derawan, Berau regency, East Kalimantan. While on the island of Charitable we can meet with giant manta which has a width of up to 5 meters. and in Maratua we could meet with such large schooling ikan2 carpet shark or baracuda even though wabegong.

There are several ways that you can use to reach Derawan islands, one of them via Tarakan. journey from Jakarta to the Tarakan done with some airline flight that served them water lion, Sriwijaya or eagle. either direct flights or transit in chicago, traveling from jakarta - Tarakan takes approximately 5 hours (with transit and differences in time zones). after arriving at the airport proceed to the port of Tarakan melundung (Tarakan) for 15 minutes. from this port we can reach Derawan islands with regular boat that takes more than 5 hours or fast boat charter which only takes 3 hours.

Canggu Beach, Bali, Indonesia

Canggu is a coastal village and 10 km beach on the south coast of Bali, north of Seminyak and south of Tanah Lot Indonesia. It lies approximately 10 kilometers north of the hustle and bustle of Kuta and present a much more relaxing atmosphere of dining, cultural and beach activities.

The main Canggu streets are Jalan Batu Bolong, Jalan Padang Linjong, Jalan Batu Mejan and Jalan Tanah Barak.

Along Jalan Batu Bolong you find the temple of the dead, Pura Merajapati, and the Pipitan Cemetery. Along the beach there are two main temples, Pura Batu Bolong and Pura Batu Mejan, which are both hundreds of years old and were initiated for building by Dang Hyang Niratha. The Canggu area used to have scenic views of paddy fields and coconut groves but current rapid developments are quickly replacing these traditional views with private villas.

Canggu proper is a small village on the beach about 20 minutes north of Seminyak, half way to Tanah Lot.

Canggu is widely used though to refer to a large coastal stretch of about 8 km, running north from the village of Berawa (just north of Seminyak) to the village of Cemagi (just south of Tanah Lot) taking in Echo Beach, Seseh and Pererenan along the way.

It is still a largely rural area away from the beaches, but is being developed fast. The beaches have dark grey or black sand and are not particularly good for swimming, but do offer some renowned and challenging surfing spots. The area is popular with many expatriates who choose to live here, and a large number of the villas owned by overseas nationals are located here. Much of the area features quietly undulating terrain with the rice paddies that typify much of south central Bali. Taxis can be hard to find in this area and most travel tends to be by private car or motorcycle.

Consider booking accommodation with a complimentary airport pickup as this is the easiest way to get to Canggu. Very pastoral, Canggu offers a chance to observe the daily rhythms of Balinese village life. Check out the sunset from your perch on a surfboard.

Nihiwatu Beach, Sumba, Indonesia

The hotel's new owner, Chris Burch (the US retail entrepreneur and co-founder of Tory Burch), lounges in an Adirondack chair nearby. He's on the island to formalise his relationship with Nihiwatu's creators, Claude and Petra Graves.

The deal should extend the resort's visibility beyond the surfing community, while ensuring future profits will be channelled into The Sumba Foundation, which is the philanthropic concern Graves will continue to help drive.

This includes tackling the very real issue of malaria, so far reduced by 86 per cent within a 20km radius of Nihiwatu with a convincing strategy overseen by health director Dr Claus Bogh.

But that is not the only strand of the foundation's work: it has already provided 172 villages with clean water and is also addressing education and malnutrition.

Evidence of success in every village I visit is brought into sharp relief by those island communities that haven't yet been reached by the foundation. Indeed, there's still much to do: another five to eight years work and about £5 million, says Bogh, and there's a chance malaria can be eradicated island-wide.

It's a bold statement, and one the resort's new owner says he will take on board. First, he has to ensure Nihiwatu turns a decent profit - and attracts the kind of traveller who might engage with local issues. For this, Burch will rely heavily on another shareholder, James McBride, the South African-born former manager of The Carlyle in New York, who originally brought Graves and Burch to the table.

'When I first came here, the rawness and the tribal culture felt like Africa,' says McBride.

'Then I dug deeper and began to understand the foundation's goals and the islanders, and that changed everything. I had to help make it work.
